John Hooker's widowed mother, Elizabeth Daggett Hooker, lived in a cottage next to her son's house on Forest Street. Miss Elizabeth Gillette, John Hooker's niece, married Charles Dudley Warner's brother, George, and settled close by. Joseph Hawley, at this time junior partner of John Hooker, met Miss Harriet W. Foote, Isabella Beecher Hooker's cousin from Guilford, Connecticut, and married her in his home. The newlyweds settled in the neighborhood.
